Industrial chemical supplier product introduction: Valkofil-A2 is touted as the next-generation high white pigment blended with dispersion technology and particle design of CaCO3. For use together with titanium dioxide pigment as a partial replacement of TiO2 not only for pigment for white paint coating formula but in various other applications such as PVC, paper, fibre glass, inks coatings, wherever titanium dioxide pigment is used. Valkofil-A2 has a way to improve dispersion of TiO2 pigment in the mixture and maximize the titanium dioxide pigment performance properties.

The patented product has this design concept in mind. When titanium dioxide is dispersed, it has a tendency for agglomeration due from Van Der Val forces between the molecules. The re-agglomeration of titanium dioxide white pigment would reduce the light scattering properties and losing the effectiveness of titanium dioxide as a brightening white pigment.

To prevent the agglomeration, Valkofil-A2 uses a special calcium carbonate coated onto the titanium dioxide and using it as a spacer to create a stable distance between the titanium dioxide molecules. The gap between each molecule group is about 0.2µm - 0.4µm. The gap is half the wavelength of visible light thereby maximizing the light scattering power.

By partial replacement of titanium dioxide in the formula, you can get the following characteristics:

  • High brightness, good opacity and hiding power can be performed by higher scattering power
  • Improved the dispersion of titanium dioxide by complex particles
  • A lower loading of titanium dioxide can be expected
  • Possible cost reduction from lower usage of titanium dioxide dosage
